Mrs. Virginia Johnson Tyson departed this life on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 10:12 pm, while in the Medical Intensive Care Unit of University of Alabama Hospital, Birmingham, Alabama.
The late Mrs. Tyson was born to the parents of the late of Mr. Earlie Johnson, Sr. and late Mrs. Lois F. Johnson on November 5, 1946 in a small rural community call Laurel Hill, Florida. She was the youngest of two children.
She attended elementary school in Lockhart, Alabama from the first through sixth grade. She attended junior and senior high school in Andalusia, Alabama and graduated from both.
After graduating, she entered college at Edward Waters College of Jacksonville, Florida to peruse a degree in Business Education and done so. After receiving her degree in Business Education, she entered college at the University of West Florida to study a degree in Elementary Education. Finally, she entered Alabama State University and received additional studies toward her Elementary Education Degree and graduated.
Mrs. Tyson taught school for 25 years and 9 months before retirement. All her educational teaching was done in Geneva County.
She joined the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church at an early age of 14. Virginia was very active in her church as being a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church Choir, a member of the Ministers’ Wives of Geneva District, member of Alpha Pi Chi National Sorority, Inc., member of Alabama State National Alumni, member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #103 and member of Ladies’ Aid Society.
Virginia was married to Shelly J. Tyson, of which preceded her in death.
The late Mrs. Tyson leaves to cherish in fond memories her brother, Mr. Earlie Johnson, Jr, of Laurel Hill, Florida (who stood by her bedside so faithful during her sickness); one aunt, Ms. Lola Copeland of Louisville, KY, a host of Godchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
