Mother Grayer was born on January 7, 1927 in Enterprise, AL to the late Walker Goynes and Jannie Warren Goynes. She was raised in a Christian home where emphasis was placed on education and serving the Lord. She assimilated and utilized those values in her personal and public life. She matriculated through the Coffee county School system, later earning two certificates in Christian Education and an advanced certificate in Christian Education all from Samford University Birmingham, AL.
She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized and became a faithful member of St. Mary Baptist Church. She later united with New Jerusalem C.O.G.I.C, were she was a faithful member.
In 1974 she was employed by the Enterprise Police Department as a school crossing guard at College Street Elementary School, a job that she loved dearly. She was an avid poll worker, she was president of the Minister Wives, and long time Grand President of the Ladies Aid Missionary Society of coffee county. One of her many god called gifts was a caregiver, after their health failed she took care of her mother, father, husband and daughter until God called them home. She was one of the best pound cake bakers in Enterprise, AL.
In 1965 she was united in Holy Matrimony with Rev. Dr. John Lee Grayer, who preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Rev WF Goynes (Johanna), sister: Marthangle Cole; five daughters: Mary Ford, Janie Smith-Donaldson, Brenda Brown, Virginia Larkins, and Margaret Woody-Shipman (Kenith); two sons: Deacon Lee Frank Grayer (Belinda), and Dr. John Reid (Joyce); twelve grand children: Bobby Brown Jr. (Alica), Miriam Renkawitz (John), Evonya Brown (John), Treneisa Adair (Anthony), Latisa McKenzie (Kevin), Brian Brown, Erica Tyson (Corey), Timothy Ford (Heather),   Kendal Larkins (Janet), Tonya Pettigrew, Tohmee Woody, Tristaca Larkins; twenty five great grands and two great great grands and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
