She was raised in a Christian home where emphasis was placed on education and serving the Lord. She assimilated and utilized those values in her personal and public life. She matriculated through the Coffee county School system, later earning two certificates in Christian Education and an advanced certificate in Christian Education all from Samford University Birmingham, AL.

She was one of the best pound cake bakers in Enterprise, AL.
