Simon Benson was born the 13th child to the late Druscilla and Kim B. (KB) Benson on September 6,1948 in Elba Alabama. He lived his early years in the Shiloh Community in Elba, Alabama where he attended Elba Colored Elementary School and Elba Colored High School (renamed Mulberry High School in 1966) on May 27, 1967 he graduated from Mulberry High School. It was during his years in high school that he worked for Dawson Funeral Home in Elba, Geneva, and Luverne Alabama as a licensed funeral director.
Simon Joined the New Glory Church of God in Christ in Elba at an early age. After completing high school, he entered the United States Army and served for four years, nine months and sixteen days before receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1972. Before working for the state of Alabama, he was employed with the Dothan Police Department and Elba Police Department. He began his employment with the state of Alabama Department of Public Safety as a trooper trainee on January 10, 1979. He graduated from Alabama state trooper academy in May 1979 and work as a uniform trooper until September 1982 in September 1982 he was transferred to the Alabama Bureau of Investigation Criminal division in which he retired in June 2018 after he retired he worked for the city of Monroeville in the Investigation Department. Simon exchanged his earthly life for his heavenly home on September 23, 2020 at his home in Monroeville, Alabama in addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings Mary A Brooks, Nina Ruth “Easy Jesus” Ervin, Sarah M. Jones, Early B. Benson and Deacon James Benson. Left to cherish the memories of a life will lived are; his special companion for 34 years Gracie Clausell of Monroeville, AL; four daughters; Myra (jammy) Thomas of Jacksonville, AL, Elizabeth Thicklin (John) of Haynesville, AL, Brandi Walker of Dotan, AL and Brittany Phillips of Tuscaloosa, AL; three young men to whom he was a great father figure; Johnathan Clausell and Antonio Booker, both of Monroeville, AL and Marcus Clausell of Columbus, OH; one devoted godson, Sergio Andrews of Monroeville, AL eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; four sisters; Mary Starks of Elba, AL, and Phyllis Marton of Huntsville, AL; three brothers; Kimmie (Veronica) Benson Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Moses (Helen) Benson of Saginaw, MI and James Benson of Buffalo, NY; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, too numerous to count.Simon will definitely be missed by all who knew him.
