Sarah Pearlean Gibson, affectionately known as Pearl, Peezy, Grandma, and GaGa received her halo and wings on Saturday, May 17, 2025 one week after Mother’s Day and in true Sarah fashion she transitioned to her home privately. Sarah was born November 19, 1937 to the late Clifford Harrison and Lola Bell Briggs in Andalusia, Alabama. She was the second oldest of 11 children to which she played a pivotal role during their lives while growing up. Sarah also spent a portion of her early life in Mobile Alabama, where she had a lot of fond memories. Sarah was a very astute child and she was very serious about her education she even was able to skip a grade. She exhibited her intellectual ability even more when she had taken a voluntary hiatus from school to assist her mother at home. After returning back to school, she fell right in as if she never left. Sarah successfully graduated from Coffee County training school here in Enterprise Alabama in 1956 and went on to achieve many goals academically as well as in her work life.
Sarah has always been held in high regards in every career role she obtained, notably she was one of the first black truancy officers in the Enterprise area. Sarah went on to share her talents in many other roles at places such as Kleinerts in Elba, West Brothers in Enterprise, Big K later known as Walmart in Enterprise. Sarah also worked in civil service on Fort Rucker now known as Fort Novosel for many years. She received recognition and awards for her outstanding and innovative efforts. Sarah retired from her civil service role after leaving her mark. Later she returned to Walmart and this is where she completed her résumé. Sarah was always busy outside of her work life she loves cooking and baking, especially for her family and friends. Gardening was another passion for Sarah, as she had the “greenest” thumb, she also enjoyed sewing and made many pieces for herself and her grandchildren to wear. Sarah loves and adore her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, family, and friends. Most importantly she loved the Lord.
Sarah accepted Christ at a young age and developed and avid appreciation of the gospel. Sarah gained a vast knowledge of the gospel and she dutifully shared what she knew with others. Sarah has served God in every way, short of preaching the gospel. She was a teacher, youth director, singing group leader, counselor and mentor.
Sarah is survived by her children Deborah Kay Gibson, Beerly Jean Gober and Lakeysha Foster of Enterprise, AL Sally Kelley Lee of Tallahassee FL, Steven Kelley (Colandra) of Atlanta, GA and Calvin Johnson of New York.
