Samuel Gray

Samuel Allen Gray, affectionately known to all as Allen, entered eternal rest on June 24, 2026, at the age of 72. Allen fought a courageous, almost two year-long battle with cancer, facing his illness with the same strength and resilience that defined his life.
Born and raised in Enterprise, Allen was the son of the late Elie Beuford and Willie Mae Gray. He found his true calling in the fields of Alabama, spending more than three decades working as a dedicated farmer. He retired in 2015, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, grit, and a deep connection to the land.
Allen’s heart was as vast as the fields he farmed. Described by those who loved him as an angel sent from heaven, he was a pillar of strength, honesty, and kindness. He was a man who knew no strangers and whose generosity knew no bounds.
For several years, Allen shared his life and heart with his special companion, Ms. Martha Ann Johnson. They spent their years creating vibrant memories—traveling to the beach to watch the sunset, taking helicopter rides, taking spontaneous joyrides, and laughing through trips to the county fair.
Above all, Allen was the proud patriarch of his family. He often referred to his children as his "Greatest Harvest." He was their steady rock, their voice of reason, and the teacher who showed them the ropes of life. His infectious smile and pure, unconditional love will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Allen joins in rest his late brothers, Beauford Gray, Dupree Gray, Earnest Gray, Johnny Earl Gray, Euwell Lee Gray, Joe Lewis Gray, Lomack Gray Sr., and Douglas Gray; and his sisters, Joe Anne Gray, Margaret Gray, and Lorene Hornsby.
His memory will be kept alive by his children: Joanna Gray Cossom, Sammy A. Gray Jr. (Latarsha), Tosha Dennard (Anthony), and April D. Caswell (Paul); his brothers, Jimmy Gray (Jean) and Billy Ray Gray (Darlene) and sister Gloria Ann Adams (Gregory); and a beautiful legacy of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and lifelong friends.
