Rodney Smith Obituary

Rodney Lenard Smith, was born May 25, 1963, in Jackson, Tennessee to the Late Robert S. Smith, Sr., and Catherine Haynes Thomas.  On Tuesday, June 14, he obeyed the voice to come home.

Rodney, attended Warren Smith and New Brockton High Schools.  He also, was a faithful member of Greater Springfield Missionary Baptist Church until health permitted otherwise.  He left a lasting impression on everyone he meet.  He loved working with his hands (Carpentry, Electronic just to name a few).

Rodney was married to Tanya Nickson (Deceased), at which time they had two children; Brandan Maurice and Mia Smith (Deceased).  Not wanting to live his life alone Rodney founded the apple of his eye Janice Newman.  He and Janice would spend time together singing God’s praises.

He loved music.  He was a DJ for several years under the name “The Love Doctor”.

He was Preceded in death by daughter Mia, father Robert S. Smith, Sr., Sister Kathy Denise, Brother Rocky Smith; Grandparents:  Sam and Mary Hicks Smith; Daniel and Emma Mae (Liptrot) Haynes; Great Grandparents:  Am and Maybelle Haynes; Uncles:  Ammie James, Samuel J. and Tommy J. Haynes and R. P. Flowers; Aunt: Dorothy W. Flowers; Cousins:  Roy Haynes and Willie Gilford.

Left to Cherish His Memories:  A loving wife Janice Newman-Smith; Sons: Brandan M. Smith, Sr.,  and Step Son Rodney Newman; and Daughters: Shannon and Amy Newman; A devoted and Loving Mother Catherine Haynes Thomas;  A Brother Robert S. Smith, Jr., Sister Robin D. Conyers of Enterprise, Alabama; Uncles: Ronald L. (Sharon) Haynes of Ozark, AL, Terry (Helen) Smith of Brownville, TN; Leroy (Pam) Smith, Willie Smith, Henry Smith of Jackson, TN and Larry Kelly Henderson of TN; Aunts: Glenda G. White, of Enterprise, AL, Alma L. Likely of Hyattsville, MD; Dorothy J. Haynes of New Brockton, AL, Deborah Haynes of Columbia, SC and Sharon Haynes of Ozark, AL; Louella (Bond) and Elizabeth (Bent) of Jackson, TN and Mozella Smith of Maury City.; Nephew:  William Marcus (Kaitilin) Johnson, Jr. of Augusta, GA; Nieces:  Katherine Chantel Johnson of Enterprise, AL and Princess Katrina Smith of New Brockton, AL; Grand Children:  Brandan M. Smith, Jr., Tyazia, Zachariah, Elijah, Legend, Trinidy and Deimaya. And a host of Great Nieces, Great Nephews, Cousins and Friends.
