Rev. SGM (Ret) Robert Earl Brooks, Sr.
June 2, 1940 – December 13, 2024
Rev. SGM (Ret) Robert Earl Brooks, Sr., a devoted servant of God, beloved father, grandfather, and decorated veteran, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on June 2, 1940, in Enterprise, Alabama. Robert was the son of William Taft Brooks and Queen Ester Brooks that instilled in him the values of faith, service, and perseverance.
SGM (Ret) Brooks’s life was defined by his unwavering commitment to his country, his faith, and his family. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he served with distinction for 30 years, retiring as a Sergeant Major (SGM) after a distinguished career. During his military service, he earned numerous accolades for his exceptional leadership, dedication, and bravery.
After retiring from the Army, Rev. Brooks’s passion for service continued as he coached many youth sports teams and later embraced his calling as a minister. He shared his wisdom and compassion with countless individuals, providing spiritual guidance and counsel to those in need and touched the lives of many with his deep faith and kind heart. He was ordained by Dr. Rev. Coleman and in 2001, he became the pastor of Greater Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Chancellor, Alabama where he pastored until his death.
Robert was also a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife Fiatuiga of 51 years of marriage, and children, Theresa Barnette (James), Paula Wilson, Roderick Brooks (deceased), Fa’aniniva Roberson (Jay) and Robert Earl Brooks, Jr., and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. His legacy of love, faith, and sacrifice will forever live on through them.
In addition to his military and ministry work, Rev. Brooks was known for his integrity and generosity. He had a natural ability to make those around him feel valued, and his kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses and doctors at Southeast Medical Center of Dothan, Alabama who provided support during his final days.
A funeral service celebrating Rev. Robert Brooks, Sr.’s life and legacy will be held at The Enterprise Civic Center on January 4th at 11:00am, with full military honors. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
Rev. SGM (Ret) Robert Earl Brooks, Sr. will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His steadfast faith, military service, and compassionate heart will forever be remembered.
