Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Reverend Rubin McKinnon, Sr.
Reverend Rubin McKinnon, Sr. was born on July 25, 1937, in Gordon, Alabama, to the late Emmanuel and Mamie (Murkeson) McKinnon. Reverend McKinnon was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, community leader, and Veteran.
Reverend McKinnon spent much of his early life in Philadelphia, Pa, where he developed a strong foundation and sense of community. He served his country faithfully for 22 years in the United States Army. Reverend McKinnon pursued higher education and spiritual growth by attending Enterprise State Junior College, Troy State University, and Samford University where he received his degree in Theology. His faith journey, which began in childhood, deepened when he accepted the call to ministry. He devoted himself to serving the congregation at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Elba, AL, before becoming a cherished pastor and teacher at Trinity MBC in Troy, AL.
Reverend McKinnon was a prominent figure in the Coffee County community, known for his strength, dedication, and unwavering support for its residents. For 30 years, he served tirelessly on the Coffee County School Board of Education for District 5, advocating for quality education and a nurturing environment for children. His role as a servant leader was evident in his teaching and mentoring efforts at the Samford University Ministry Training Institute, where he inspired numerous future leaders.
Reverend McKinnon enjoyed fishing and gardening. His life was filled with accomplishments, many of which remain too numerous to list, but all reflect his commitment to his faith, family, and community.
On Thursday, February 6, 2025, Our Heavenly Father called His faithful son home to receive his crown.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 37 years, Ammie Jean (Knox) McKinnon (d. 1996); son, Raynard Emil McKinnon; parents, Emmanuel and Mamie (Murkeson) McKinnon; and siblings, Mary Alice Rivers Hines, Willie C. Anderson, John W. McKinnon, Rosa Mae Thomas, and Lillie Mae Dixon.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Alice Faye McKinnon. His beloved children: Yvette Renee (Leandra) Flowers of Elba, AL; Rubin, Jr. (Harriet) McKinnon of Enterprise, AL; Richard (Yulelonda) McKinnon of Madison, AL; Ronald (LaShana) McKinnon of Bessemer, AL; Isaac Meach of Olympia, WA; Roshanda McKinnon of Montgomery, AL; Katie Meach of Olympia, WA; and Jasmine McKinnon of Daleville, AL. His cherished bonus daughter, Caroline (Harold) Jackson of Enterprise, AL. His sister-in-law, Mary (Jessie) Windsor of Enterprise, AL. His former brother-in-law, Hallot Hines, Jr. of Gordon, AL. A proud patriarch, Rubin also leaves behind a legacy of love through 19 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a host nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. His enduring spirit and the impact he made on the lives of those around him will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
