Heaven’s gates opened August 18, 2023, and welcomed a
phenomenal woman.
Martha Rogers Blackwell was born on April 24, 1941, in
Opp, Alabama to the late Lomax and Lizzie Rogers. She
attended Covington County Training High School after
graduating from Elba Elementary and Opp Elementary
Schools in Opp, Alabama.
Martha was full of life. She was wise, she was strong, she
was a force to be reckoned with; yet Martha remained
humble, compassionate and always forgiving.
Martha’s love for her family was unconditional. She enjoyed
bringing her family and friends together over a home
cooked meal and sitting on the porch sharing stories and
laughter. Martha also loved soap operas, particularly Days of
Our Lives, so you knew not to call her until after it went off.
Martha enjoyed gardening and seeing the beauty of nature.
She also enjoyed traveling, catching up on world news and
discussing current events. Martha was a loyal and passionate
person who gave life her best, always being mindful that
one day her best life would be at heaven’s gate.
