Mamie J. Askew Speed was born February 1st 1950 to the late James Solomon and Everett Lee Askew of Elba, AL. At a young age she joined Greater New Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. LB. Baldwin. After moving to Orlando, FL she attended Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Oviedo, FL under the leadership of Rev. Charles Jones, Pastor.
Mamie was employed and retired after 34 years with the Federal Government at the Department of Defense Fiancé and Accounting Service in Orlando, FL. She was a member of Blacks in Government where she served until her death on the National Fiancé Committee and was treasure of the Central Florida Chapter. She was a member of the Alley Cats Bowling League where she also served as treasurer. On July 5th 2022, the Golden Gates stood open; God saw she needed a rest. His garden must be more beautiful now as he only takes the best.
She was preceded in death by her parents: James Solomon and Everett Askew; brother and sister in law: John and Icylean Askew; sister and brother in law: Juanita and Jessie Robinson and sister Linda G. Hill. She leaves to cherish her memories to her loving son: Brandon Solomon Speed; sister: Mary H. (Tommy) Robinson; brother in law: Jerry Hill and a host of nieces nephews, and friends.
