Lenwood Walter Herron was born in New Brockton, Alabama on February 19, 1953 to Mr. Johnnie Herron and Annie Dean West. He was educated in the Coffee County public school system, graduating from New Brockton High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Miles College in Birmingham, Alabama, and received a Masters degree in Community Planning from Alabama A&M University, Normal, Alabama.
Lenwood’s work was Grant Writing and Consultant for small towns and rural communities. He enjoyed working with the people and towns he served. Colony, Midway, Fort Deposit, White Hall and North Courtland just to name a few. One of his most proud accomplishments was the planning, design and construction of the Muffler Exhaust Systems for Hyuandi Motors of North Alabama. He served as Mayor of his hometown, New Brockton, Alabama 2008 to 2012. He served as the first City Manager in Midway, Florida in 1986 and returned as City Manager 2018 til 2020.
Lenwood was a hard worker but he found time to play. One of his favorite pastimes was tailgating. Many were invited to join the “The Big Black College Football Tour”.
Lenwood was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Dean West Harrison, his brother, Alan Harrison, his beloved grandmother; Doll West, Aunt Shug and Uncle Forthie.
Lenwood leaves behind to cherish his memories; his father, Johnnie Frank (Barbara) Herron; Wife, Deborah Bridgeforth Herron; son, Walter Herron; granddaughter, Leighton Elizabeth Herron; brothers, Randolph and Robert Harrison; Smoke and MeMe; a host of loving cousins and tons of friends.
