Lashan Russell Obituary

A Life Well Lived

LaShan Cain “Muffet” Russell was born on July 5, 1970, in Elba, Alabama, to James Cain and the late Reather “Pat” Cain (Waters). She attended Elba High School for several years before moving to Folkston, Georgia, where she graduated from Charlton County High School. An avid learner, LaShan enrolled in Wallace Community College in Dothan, Alabama, where she earned an associate’s degree in nursing.

LaShan was the consummate professional. Her nursing career spanned more than 20 years, including positions at Southeast Alabama Medical Center, Gambrough Healthcare (dialysis unit) and Flowers Hospital, where she achieved the position of charge nurse for the Surgical Assessment Clinic (SAC).

LaShan was a faithful church member. She joined Harris Temple Church of God in Christ in 1994 and embarked on a life committed to the service of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. LaShan not only was a church member, but she also was a church leader. Her many positions of service included being the President of the Brewton District Nurse’s Guild; Co-Coordinator, along with her husband, of Marriage Enrichment Training (M.E.T.); and member of the Ministers’ Wives Circle and the Missionary Board. LaShan was known as a compassionate and loyal member of Harris Temple. She was affectionately known as “Nurse Mommy.”

Most of all, LaShan was a dedicated wife and mother. LaShan was joined in holy matrimony to her adoring husband, Elder Herbert Russell, on September 1, 1994. They were blessed with two beautiful, talented and anointed daughters, Noel Patrice and Maya Arianna. The Russell family enjoyed a unique bond of love and laughter, centered in their mutual love for God. As the matriarch of her family, LaShan exemplified the Proverbs 31 woman: “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”

LaShan was a woman of great wit, wisdom, grace, beauty and strength of character. She was loved by all who knew her, from the smallest child to those of seasoned years. Hers was truly a life well lived.

LaShan leaves to celebrate her life, her husband, Herbert, and two daughters, Noel and Maya; her father, James (Pam) Cain, Jacksonville, Fla.; her brother, Michael Scott, Riverside, Calif., and her sisters, Tonya (Peter) Waters Coles, Kennesaw, Ga. and Janese Cain, Jacksonville, Fla.; her mother-in-law, Rosa L. Coleman, Elba, Ala.; five sisters-in-law: Deborah Siler, Elba, Ala., Lois G. Russell, Montgomery, Ala., Monique “Tina” (Richard) Bogan, Montgomery, Ala., Cathleen Russell-Pierce, Shreveport, La., and Sarah Louise Dugger, Rome, N.Y.; one brother-in-law, Ronnie Russell, Harrisburg, Pa.; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, Godchildren and friends.
