Jason Javell McKenzie was born in Montgomery, AL, on August 2, 1981, to James and Barbara McKenzie. Growing up, he was dedicated to every sport. He was an amazing football, basketball, and baseball player. Jason graduated from New Brockton High School in 2000 and went on to attend Enterprise State Community College on a baseball scholarship. A few years later, Jason began working as a telephone/cable technician. He was hardworking and dedicated to his job for sixteen years. Jason loved his job and his coworkers so much. During his free time he had a true passion for hunting that brought him joy and peace. He also loved to fish and ride motorcycles. Jason grew up attending Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church where he gave his life to Christ at a young age. He loved the Lord, his mother’s cornbread dressing every Thanksgiving, Alabama football, his family, and friends.
Jason was preceded in death by his grandparents, David McKenzie, Acie McKenzie, Frank Langston, John Askew, and Icylean Askew; and his aunts Jannie Richardson (Mose) and Frankie Cain. To cherish the amazing memories, Jason leaves behind his parents, James and Barbara McKenzie, his sister BreAunna McKenzie, his nephew Tyler James “TJ” McKenzie; several aunts and uncles: Sonya Adams, Ricky Askew (Cheryl), Linda (Russell) Jeanette, Beverly Goosby, Frankie Netter, Henry (Ernestine) Baker, Timothea McGowan, Felicia (Kelvin) Oldham, Kristie (Seon) Jones, Angelia Langston, Stephanie (Brad) Erwin, Pamela (Demond) Stone, Sonja Williams, and many great aunts, great uncles, cousins, and friends. He was an amazing son, brother, and uncle. Jason was loved by many and is missed deeply. It’s not goodbye; we will see you later. May your soul be at peace.
