James Florence Jr.

James Florence, Jr. was born on March 19, 1939, in Enterprise, Alabama, to the late Addie B. Florence and J.T. Florence. He attended Coffee County Training School, where he completed his high school education in 1958.

Mr. Florence was united in holy matrimony to the late Maxine Sanders in 1961. From this union, four children were born. They shared more than 42 years of marriage, building a strong foundation of love, family, and commitment.

In 2003, Deacon Florence was united in marriage to his devoted wife, Jenese M. Lofton, and they shared 22 loving years together.

Deacon Florence was a faithful and dedicated member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Enterprise, Alabama. Under the pastorate of Reverend N. L. Robinson, he served faithfully as a member of the Deacon Board, beginning a lifelong commitment to servant leadership within the church.

Through years of faithful service, Deacon Florence was later elevated to Chairman of the Deacon Board, a position he held for over 50 years, providing steady leadership, wise counsel, and unwavering support to the pastor and congregation.

He was also a member of the Robinson Chorus Choir and served as a Statistician of the Salem Enterprise District Association and Financial Secretary of the Laymen’s Union. He was a proud member of Prince Hall Masonic Lodge #457. Deacon Florence was employed for 42 years at Fort Rucker, Alabama, as an aircraft mechanic.
James Florence, Jr. was preceded in death by his son Eric Lofton, sister Dorothy Stewart Downer, and grandson Marc Anthoni, Jr. 

He departed this life on April 6, 2026, at Southeast Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife, Jenese Florence; four children: Alesia Florence Peacock (Marc-Anthoni) Pike Road, Alabama, Cassandra Florence Strange (Brett) Dayton, Ohio, Craig Lenard Florence (Vicki) Dothan, Alabama, and Melissa Florence Lane (Eddie) Huntsville, Alabama, one niece Phyllis Stewart New York, NY, twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
