J P Rogers Obituary

Reverend JP Rogers was born in Elba, AL on May 21, 1939, to Louise Hill Rogers (Mama Louise) and Will Rogers (Daddy Will). They both preceded him in death. He transitioned to be with the Lord on Monday, November 10, 2025. As a young man, he became a member of Nazareth Baptist Church in Opp, AL. There he began his services as an usher and joined the choir. He was ordained as a deacon, where he continued his service to God’s people. In time, he accepted his call into the Ministry. He participated in youth ministries such as The Crusaders for Christ and Vacation Bible School; he took the youth on trips in the church bus. 
He served as the Pastor of Morning Star Baptist Church in Dozier, AL and New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Opp, AL. He stayed faithful to the ministry until the end. JP began working at an early age doing various jobs on the farm. He also worked as a bridge constructor and logging truck driver. He later landed his career job at Micolas Cotton Mill as a machine doffer. Through time, hard work and favor of God he was promoted to a Shift Supervisor. He completed 37 years on this job. 
JP leaves to cherish his loving wife of 66 years. JP married Martha Wilson Rogers on August 15, 1959. Their union was blessed with a daughter Debra Rogers Smith (deceased) Charlie Smith, two sons, Kenneth Rogers, Elston Rogers (Debora Rogers), and a daughter Melanie Caldwell (Rodrick Caldwell). Their house was home to several children that extended the family: Johnnie Bell McBride (Willie McBride), Mary King (Sim King), Ursula Crosby ( Khaalis Crosby Sr.), Jason Rogers, LaTerris Rogers, Kenneth Rogers Jr. (Guiliana Rogers). They also have a host of Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great-Great Grandchildren. 
JP was one of twelve children. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Rebecca Lindsey (David Lindsey), Ruby Walker (Willie James Walker), Willie Mae Dubose (Phillip Dubose) and two brothers: David Rogers and Jonas Rogers (Virgina Rogers). 
He leaves to cherish him four sisters: Ethel Bea Horstead (Levi Horstead, deceased), Betty Mullins (Eddie B. Mullins, deceased), Johnnie McBride (Willie McBride), and Martha Gilford. He also leaves two brothers to cherish him, CP Rogers (Mildred Rogers) and Will Rogers Jr. (Sharon Rogers, deceased). He leaves to cherish him a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
