Gloria S. Blue was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world and entered into the presence of Almighty God on December 23, 2021, at age 85.
Gloria, a homemaker, was born in Elba, Alabama, on August 13, 1936, to the late Luke Simmons, Sr. of Detroit, Michigan, and Grace Simmons (nee Hammond) of Elba, Alabama.
At the age of 12, she joined Elba Zion Baptist Church and went to Sunday School and bible study every week. She attended Mulberry Heights Colored School until 1955, when the family moved to Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from Chadsey High School in Detroit, worked for a few years, and ultimately returned to Alabama. Gloria worked for over 30 years at Human Resource Development Corporation and retired in 1997.
She married her childhood sweetheart, the late Billy Don Blue, on August 23, 1957, and had two sons: Billy Don Blue Jr. and Arthur Grady Blue III. Family came first for Gloria, and she devoted her life to her family – husband, children, parents, siblings, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and expanded family and friends.
Gloria is survived by her loving son, Billy Don Blue Jr. daughter in laws Claudette & Rene Blue; Patricia Dawson, grandchildren Dorian Bell, Billy Blue III, Annedrea Blue, Demetrius Bell, Shervekia Bell, DeVonte Blue, and Janae Knox of Marianna, Florida; siblings Luke Simmons Jr., Eleanor Green, and Ann Hamm; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Billy Blue, son Arthur Grady Blue III, and grandson Montez Tony Blackmon.
