Essie Lee Moultry (Brooks) was born to both the late Beatrice Williams Moultry and LK Moultry on February 28, 1921 in Tennille, Alabama.
Essie Lee was affectionately called “Madea” and “Mamo” by some of her grandchildren.
Essie was educated in the Enterprise, Alabama school system. She met and married James Brooks in Enterprise, AL in 1938. Essie worked at Conagra Chicken Plant in Enterprise, Alabama for many years. She was a member of Adams Street Church of Christ.
Essie Lee was a person that spoke her mind and never minced her words. Until her sight failed she loved to make quilts, she loved to cook and of course she loved to eat
She later moved to Boston, Ma in 1980, and lived until she received her wings at the age of 99 on Thursday, September 17, 2020.
Essie Lee had 13 children. Johnny Lee of Alabama, Loretta Hall, deceased of Nevada, Mary Gray of Alabama, Emma Stewart of Florida, Naola Hill, Nacola Brown, Gaynell Miley, Donella Phillips all of Alabama, Johnny Ray Williams Sr., deceased (Maxine) of Alabama, Melvin Brooks Sr., (Cheryl) of Massachusetts, Lee Brooks (Angela) of Michigan, Sherry Ross (Dimitri) of Massachusetts, Larry Brooks of Alabama. She also leaves to mourn many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, great-great-great-grandchildren as well as 1 sister Rosie Newson of Florida and a whole host of nieces and nephews and extended families.
