Elma Terry

Elma Sue Terry was born June 22, 1939 in Headland, Alabama to the late Howard Dozier and Inez Lee. From 1945 to 1947 her family lived in Dothan, Alabama. In 1947 the family moved to Opp, Alabama. She attended high school in Elba,  Alabama up until 1957.
On November 13, 1957, she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Frederick Terry.
The couple left Opp in 1958 and moved to Springfield, MA. In 1960, they moved to New York City, N.Y. where she became a switchboard operator until retirement in 2007. In 2009 she moved back home to Opp where she became an active member of her church and community. She served as an usher of the Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church for as long as she could. She did not take her duties as an usher lightly; she greeted everyone who entered the doors with a warm smile and kind spirit. She was affectionately nicknamed by her great nieces and nephews as “Aunt Sweet Sue”.
Elma Sue Terry was preceded in death by her mother and father; one sister, Henry Elma King; three brothers, Charles Dozier, James Dozier, and Jerome Lee; and one nephew, Nathan King.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: one brother, Calvin Dozier (Beatrice), Atlanta Ga; two sisters-in-law; Eleanor Lee and Alice Dozier, a  host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
