Dr. Diane Flournoy

We celebrate the life of Dr. Diane M. Flournoy, a woman of faith, a loving wife and an endearing and compassionate mother. Dr. Flournoy was a leader with a passion for education and an abundant gift to inspire others to realize their potential, and exceed it.

Dr. Flournoy had the gift of a kindred spirit making it easy to befriend her. Born on June 4, 1955, Dr. Flournoy was the second child born to the late Mr. Hosea and Mrs. Juanita Coxsom. She answered God's call and transitioned to Heaven on Saturday morning, February 24, 2024. Diane gave her life to Christ at an early age, was baptized at Pleasant Shade Missionary Baptist Church. There she served faithfully for more than twenty years, effectively executing her task as church clerk until her health began to fail.

Dr. Flournoy's early childhood, junior and senior high school education was completed at Carroll Street Elementary, Coppinville Junior High and Enterprise High School. She matriculated and graduated from Alabama State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1977. She later received a Master's Degree in Education Administration and Supervision from Troy State University and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree from NOVA Southeastern University. Dr. Flournoy was a life-long educator, having worked 42 years as a Teacher, Nutrition Director, Principal and Superintendent of Daleville City School System. She served the boys and girls of Daleville City Schools for more than 35 years, nurturing and molding them into independent thinkers and productive citizens. Dr. Flournoy was a member of Kappa Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated for 47 years. 

Cherishing her sweet memoires are her husband Rev. John Flournoy; two sons: Everette (Ashley) Marshall, and Darin (Kelley), grandchildren: Bryson and Kolson Marshall and Kaydan Smith; Grandfather: Israel Coxson; Brothers: Gregory (Marcia) Coxsom and Ronald Coxsom; other children: Elisha, Jonathan, Mareneo and Yankarlo Flournoy; Mother-in-Law: Mary Alice Marshall; Sister-in-Law: Marcia Coxsom, Niece: Amber Coxsom, Great Niece; Lonyae Coxsom, Nephews: Gregory Dante Coxsom, Christopher Rowles Grant; Great Nephew: Pierre O'Bannon; Other Relatives: Larondez, Shawana and Trevino Marshall; Godmothers: Blonzell Byrd, Nora McCray, and Doris Wheeler; Lifelong Sisters; Nora (Joseph) Arrington, Linda Boykin, Carol (Roderick) Covington, Donna Drakeford, Winifred (Clifford) Johnson, Angela (Samuel) Seals, Yolanda Terry, Rena (Walter) Taylor; Goddaughters; Jordan and Kegan Covington, and Sydney Sullen.
