1st Lieutenant Donnie Lee Brundidge was born July 14, 1951 to Lepold Brundidge and Willie McSwain in Opp, Alabama. He passed away peacefully from this life at Southeast Health Hospital in Dothan, Alabama on June 30, 2025 after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded by loving family and friends during his last hours of life.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lepold Brundidge, brother, Willie George English, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousin, and great nephew (Dee Brundidge).
Donnie attended Woodson High School and graduated from Opp High School in 1969. He took classes at Lurleen B. Wallace in Andalusia, Alabama and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminology from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. He later went to Douglas Macarthur State Technical College and received a certificate in nursing (CNA).
Donnie enlisted in the United States Army in 1973, a Vietnam Era Veteran as a 4th Infantry Division Soldier and worked as a clerk typist. He received a National Defense medal, Marksman badge and Expert badge. He re-enlisted in 1976 with the 1st Calvary Division and worked as a court reporter, administrative specialist and a personnel administrative specialist. He received Good Conduct Medal Clasp, Bronze 2 Loops, Marksmen (rifle). He worked with General George Patton Jr. and later discharged as a Honorable Veteran.
Beyond his military service, Donnie was the heart of his family. He was a loving husband to his dear wife, Debra Brundidge. He was a favorite to his brothers, sister, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. As a father, stepfather and godfather he offered wisdom, guidance, and unwavering support and his children will forever carry the lessons he taught them.
He loved the golf course, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the excitement of the casino. He enjoyed every moment to the fullest and always knew how to make others smile.
He is survived by his dear wife Debra Brundidge, children: Donna Brundidge of Andalusia, Alabama and Sylvania Brundidge (Randy) of Dothan, Alabama, stepchildren: Atosha Miller of Houston, Texas, Sharonda Scott of Dothan, Alabama, and (SGT) LaQuitta Rudd of Covington, Georgia. One sister Mary Brundidge (Malcom) of Opp, Alabama, 3 brothers: James (Aquilla) Brundidge of Rochester, New York, Joseph Brundidge of Opp, Alabama, and Steven Brundidge of Opp, Alabama. Seven grandchildren: RJ, Paul Jr., Terrien, Devin, Toshairra, Alexis, and Nakera. One goddaughter: Zakia Wiggins (Avaya) of Ozark, Alabama. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Special friends: Ruben Lawrence, Kim and Faye Allen, Linda Gavins, Mattie Freeney, Frankie Mount, Hubert Hines, Maxine Mullins, and Jimmy Tyson.
