Bessie Washington Obituary

Bessie Mae Washington was born to the late Sealand Washington and Albert J. Mathis Sr. on December 12, 1938 in Rose Hill Al. Bessie graduated from Woodson High School of Andalusia, Al in 1958. Bessie joined St. Stephens A.M.E. Church at an early age where she was a devoted member for many years. She worked at Covington Industries for 30 plus years and at Woodmoore Assisted Living for over 20 years. She was also preceded in death by her brother Albert J. Mathis Jr. and she leaves to cherish a loving sister Dollie Mae Cox of Brantley, Al. Ms. Bessie was a very loving and kind lady, known by many as Ma Bessie or Granny. She was the kind of lady that had nothing but kind words and positive affirmations to say such as “Put it in God’s hands.” If she could help you or do for you she would. With that being said, she had a lot of adopted kids, three that were dear to her heart: Joshua (J.B.) Edwards, Derrick (Scooter) Cooper and Terrion (Cootie) Akins. She leaves to cherish her loving memory; three children that she adored; Clifford “Noonie” “Gene”  (Ginger “Genia) Washington of
Tacoma, Washington, Darius “Dabby” Washington of Tacoma, Washington and Shelia “Ms. Sassy” Washington, Opp, AL. sister Dolly Mae Cox of Brantley, AL, grandchildren; Latoyia “Toyota” Miller, Kevin Laws, Lakon stance “Shandy Bandit” Washington, Katrina Washington, Sherlonda Washington, Joshua Washington, Jontae “ My Dearest Grandchild” Washington, Darius Washington, Jr. and Andrew Washington, a loving sister Dolly Mae Cox, Brantley, AL. She leaves to mourn many grandchildren, great-children, a host of nieces, nephews and extended families.
