Robert James Hooks

October 3, 1935 ~ December 5, 2017 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Deacon Robert James Hooks found complete healing in the arms of our Lord on December 5th 2017. He was born in Coffee County, Alabama, the only son of the late John Robert and Louisa Hooks on October 3, 1935.  He was baptized at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

He received his formal education in the Coffee County Training School as senior class president and class Valedictorian. Robert attended Alabama State College, Montgomery, AL; He served in the United States Armed Forces in the area of signal corps.

In 1961, He was united in marriage to the former Annie Lois Askew for more than 56 years. They were blessed with a son, Minister Phil L. Hooks, an adorable daughter-in-law Aimee  Garrett Hooks and two granddaughters Angelina and Noelle Hooks.

Robert was presented the Community Service Award by the Southeast Alabama Community Development Corporation. He served in management with contractors in the maintenance of various types of aircrafts. He was appointed Election Law Commissioner for the State of Alabama. For almost 20 years Robert represented the City of Enterprise on the coffee County Emergency Communication Board. He received the Farm City Spirit of Coffee County Award, sponsored by Enterprise Chamber of Commerce, November, 2015. He served on the Coffee County Board of Registrars for 17 years.

Robert was an active member of Pleasant Shade Baptist Church, Enterprise, Al where he served as a deacon, an adult men’s Sunday school teacher and was a member of the male choir until his health began to decline.

Robert was preceded in death by his father and mother, John Robert and Louisa Hooks, sisters Lucille Cole and Graci M. Thomas.

He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife, Annie L. Hooks, Enterprise, AL a son Phil L. Hooks (Aimee) Fairfax, VA, a sister Eloise Cannon of Lawrenceville, GA, two granddaughters, Angelina and Noelle Hooks of Swedon, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and neighbors.
