Mary was the eldest child to Ridgeway and Thelma Andrews. She moved to New York in 1950, where she met her future husband, Willie James McWhorter. the two married in 1959, Mary gave birth to a son and named him Richard. 

In 1948, Mary graduated from New Brockton H.S.

Mary worked as a housekeeper/home health aide for several families, but for the last twenty years of her professional life, she was employed by the Pollin family, who she cared for immensely.

Mary was a member of the Eastern Stars, where she earned the title of "Manhattan District Deputy" and Worthy Matron of Unity 45."

Mary leaves behind: a son, Richard; two grandchildren that were the apple of her eyes, Darnell McWhorter and Starsha Jordan; a daughter-in-law, Sabrina David; one brother Bob Andrews (enterprise, Al); two sisters, Joan Mitchell (NYC) and Qubie Rowe (Ohio) two sister-in-laws, Billie Gentry and Bobbie Chambers (Ohio) one brother-in-law, Fred Holt (FL) and a host of nieces and nephews.
