Bro. Ira Dean Simmons was born September 13, 1933, to the late Glover Moore and Annie Will Simmons in Enterprise, AL. Ira Dean grew up in Enterprise and attended the Enterprise Public School System. He was a graduate of Coffee County Training School. He was employed 55 years with the Dairy Fresh Corporation.
Ira Dean was blessed into Christ at Adams Street Church of Christ Enterprise, AL. He ministered and preached at Tennille Road Church of Christ in Brundidge, AL for over 53 years. He loved the church, but most of all he loved Christ. Many lives were touched by his indomitable, encouraging spirit, and devoted service.
Bro. Simmons married the late Yvonne Marie (Henderson) Simmons and they were blessed with six children. He left indelible marks on the many lives with whom he came in contact. He loved participating at the Senior Citizen Center playing dominoes.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, James Simmons and Mounty Simmons; a son, James Moore; and two grandsons; Jason Grase and Bobby Jones.
Celebrating his homegoing and cherishing his memories, Ira Jerome Simmons of Montgomery, AL, Robert Bernard Simmons of Enterprise, Alvin Carl (Beverly) Simmons of Huntsville, AL, Cynthia Diann (Frederick) Grase, Shirley Denise (Lorenzo Sr.) Harrison both of Enterprise, AL, Rosalind Dean (Kenneth) Bess of Samson, AL, Cherry Young of Albany, N.Y.; daughter-in-law Rachel Moore of Enterprise, AL and brother-in-law Rickey Henderson of Tampa, FL, a sister; Barbara Moore of St. Petersburg, FL, three brothers; Billie (Veronica) Moore of Atlanta, GA, Phil (Christine) Blocker of Richmond, VA, Eugene Blocker of Atlanta, GA, eighteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren, special devoted friends; the McQueen Family, Bro. Ira Belford, and the Tennille Road Church of Christ, Brundidge, AL, a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. He was a faithful man and had a good spirit, not only to his congregation and family, but to everyone he met. To say that he will be missed is an understatement.
