Evelyn Daniels Tillis was the youngest child born to the late Joe Daniels Jr. and Rubye Staley. Evelyn’s youth was spent in the Searight Community under the guidance of her grandmother Rosetta Daniels. Her spiritual formation began at Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Dozier, AL. She enjoyed traveling the world with her mother Rubye, “Pops” Mose, and brother Robert. Upon moving back to Alabama, Evelyn met and married her husband Rickie Tillis.
Evelyn started her working career at Kleinert’s in Elba , AL During her 15 year stay, she had the opportunity to acquire many friends. After the closing of Kleinert’s she was employed by Johnston Industries for a brief stint before finding her true passion in the medical field as a Surgical Technologist. She was always hard working and dedicated to her job and always did it with a smile. She continued her career until her health began to decline.
Evelyn is survived by her loving husband Rickie Tillis of 41 years, her “Pops” (Mose Staley) Fort Walton Beach FL, her children; Rashad (Michela) Tillis of Destin, FL, DeWane Tillis, Opp, AL, Nicole Tillis Enterprise, AL, Briana ( daughter as her own) (Jamere) Shepherd Opp, AL. six loving grandchildren; Myles Tillis, Tiago Tillis, Neveah Tillis, Malaysia Austin, Jo’el Shepherd, and Johanna Shepherd, brother; Robert Daniels Free Port, FL, mother and father - in -law Charlie (Catherine) Tillis Opp, AL brother-in-law Malcolm (Mary Brundidge) Tillis Opp, AL, Anthony Tillis Opp, AL, Charlie (Linda) Tillis Elba, AL, Sisters-in-law Sheila Tillis Montgomery, AL, Connie Henderson Opp, AL, Shelitha “Butterbean” Tillis Opp, AL, special cousin Ann Grace and special nephew Fred Tillis, uncles; James Freeney, Ricky Justice, Ray Justice, Aunts; Mary Cox, Linda Ruttlen, Annie Head, Neta Justice great aunt Alice Freeney and Great Uncle Clifford Tyson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
