Ernest Paul Belcher was born on Nov. 6, 1952 the fifth of nine children to Grover and Eria (Lindsey) Belcher in Elba, AL. Paul joined the Rocky Head Baptist Church at an early age. He loved family, fishing, bowling, cooking/grilling, and traveling.
Paul graduated from Elba High School in 1970. After graduating, he attended McArthur Trade School in Opp, AL and a school in Atlanta, GA.
Then, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy.He was a crew member on the USS Seattle in 1972.
After retiring from the Navy, he decided that out of all his travels, Rota, Spain was the place he most wanted to live. His second choice was Orlando, Florida. “Ernie”, as he was called by his Navy friends, served the Navy honorably for more than 20 years.
Preceded Paul in death were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grover Belcher and one brother, Grover Belcher, Jr. (Mt. Vernon, NY). He leaves to morn his passing: Juan Serrano (Rota, Spain); three brothers—Milt (Bettye) Belcher (Montgomery, AL), Alan Belcher (Elba, AL), and Warren Belcher (Montgomery, AL); four sisters—Ernestine Kelley (Elba, AL), Joyce (Otis) Johnson (Tuscumbia, AL), Juanita (Wiley) Brooks (Enterprise, AL), Evelyn (Michael) Manning (Elba, AL); a beloved sister-in-law—Mamie Belcher (Mt. Vernon, NY); a loving god brother—Minister Robert Edwards (Opp, AL).
Paul had a devoted friend and cousin, Darlene Tillis Brown (Elba, AL) and many other cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
Graveside service will take place at a later date as pursuant to the U. S. Navy.
