Betty Sue was born on September 17, 1945, to Fannie Allen and Henderson Thomas in Loachapoka, Alabama. She was the youngest of three children. Needing another angel, Betty Sue was called home by the Lord on Monday, December 17, 2018.
Betty Sue accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a young age, and joined the Gethsemane Baptist Church, Columbus, Georgia. After moving to New Brockton and needing a church home she joined the Greater Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of her pastor Rev. Barry Causey, whom she loved quite dearly. She was also a member of the Matron’s, and Education Committee. Additionally, she loved cooking and working with the kitchen committee.
She spent her early years, and attended Elementary School and High School in Columbus, Georgia, moving to Far Rockaway, New York in 1964. Betty Sue worked and raised her family in Far Rockaway, until she retired from Park Nursing Home in 2003 and moved to New Brockton Alabama. In August of 2004, she joined in Holy Matrimony, her best friend Clayborn Sowell. Betty Sue was a dedicated mother, loving grandmother, sweet great grandmother, wonderful aunt, and a caring sister. Enjoying life to the fullest, she loved going to BINGO with her daughter Henrietta and several girlfriends; her “Bingo Buddies,” and spending time with her closest friend, Peggy Banks.
She was preceded in death by her father Henderson Thomas, her mother, Fannie Thomas, her daughter Deborah Thomas, son Anthony Thomas and sister Bertha Edwards.
She leaves mourning her loss but cherishing her memories her husband Clayborn Sowell, her five children, Brenda (Paul) Jones; Rochester, NY., Henrietta(Jeffery) Roundtree; Enterprises, AL, Marcus Thomas; Hempstead, NY, Rose (Saifuddin) Thomas; , Hempstead, NY, and Bernard Thomas: Ottisville, NY; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a special Goddaughter Paracina (Mohammed) Alghawi; Queens, NY., one Sister-in Law, MaryAnn (William) Thomas; Augusta, GA and two Brother-in Laws, Gary (Joyce) Sowell; Augusta, GA and Gregory Sowell; New Brockton, AL, a favorite nephew Curtis Angelo Thomas; New Brockton, AL, 10 Stepchildren, one sister Bernice(Conyers)Thomas-Smith, Atlanta, GA; a very special first cousin Juanita White; Syracuse, NY and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
