Gloria Kaye Matthews was born October 16, 1966 in Opp, AL to the late Hosea Mount and the late Maebell Matthews. She was the 8th of 9 children.
She graduated from Opp High School. She was a member of Opp High School Marching Black and Gold Band and played the saxophone. She was a kind and generous person who loved cooking, reading and Mountain Dew. She did not play about her kids or grandkids especially her grandkids. She was funny and did not care what came out of her mouth and would go to the store 100 times in a day.
Gloria was a member of the Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church and accepted Christ as her personal Savior in her last hours. She was called home to be with the Lord on April 15, 2024. She was loved by many and will be missed by more.
Gloria was preceded in death by both of her parents; two sisters: Betty Sue Gratton and Lillie Merle Flowers; one brother: Johnny Matthews.
She leaves to cherish her fond and precious memories four kids: Chancellor “Chauncey” Matthews, Courtney (Cedric) Hornsby, Cylar Matthews, Curtis “Lil man” Matthews; nine grandchildren: Ci’yannah, Madisyn, Derriyahn, Armariyun, Bryson, Malachi, Ariah, Kealani and Kealiah; auntie babies: Erin, Keshaun, Erik and Lejerryan; a special and long time friend Curtis Fitzpatrick; six siblings: Willie Mack Lindsey Opp, AL, Patricia (Teddy) Hill Opp, AL, Cassandra (Anthony) Brooks Defuniak Springs, FL, Jacqueline Matthews San Jose’ CA, Phillis Matthews Opp, AL and Corey Matthews Opp, AL; two nieces as sisters: Janice Matthews-Hines and Netta Matthews; one aunt Mary Mathews Opp, AL, one uncle Eddie Matthews Ft. Lauderdale, FL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family; two special cousins: Pamela Matthews and Francine Mount; close friends: Amanda Hines, Bernice James, Eva Mae Wells and Shelia Washington.
