Elsie (Phillips) Copes

Elder Elsie Phillips-Copes transitioned to be with Our Heavenly Father on February 17, 2017.

 

Elsie was born February 6, 1951 to the late John Frank Phillips, Sr. and Julia Waters Phillips. She confessed to Christ at an early age and was a member of Bethel AME church, where she would later pastor for many years.

Elsie was devoted to her family. She attended and graduated from Mulberry Heights High School in 1968. She furthered her education at Alabama A&M University in Normal, Alabama prior to serving in the United States Navy, where she received an Honorable Discharge. She also attended Nichols-Grady School of Theology, Dothan, AL and received a Bachelors of Divinity. She was employed at Fort Rucker and served as a  DOD Civilian for many years until retirement.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories a mother and best friend, Julia Waters Phillips, two daughters, Paula E. Elliard (Maurice) of Meridianville, AL and Roneene S. Brown of Baton Rouge, LA, son, Kenya K. Adkins of Elba, AL, grandchildren, Kendra B. Elliard, Destinee N. Elliard, Kendall K. Adkins, Ashlee S. Adkins, Brian (Chase) Adkins, Alexis K. Adkins, Savannah Y. Adkins, Carmenda Coleman of Birmingham, AL, Keondre T. Stoudemire, and Jalaysia Newsome, brother, Rev. Paul (Dorothy) Phillips of Enterprise, AL, sister-in-law, Helen Phillips, seven loving great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.
